Cave Enviornment

A weathered pirate ship lies fractured in the heart of this deserted looters cavern—its splintered hull half submerged in glowing, still water. Beams of pale light pierce through openings in the cavern ceiling, catching on dust and mist to illuminate the fractured sails of this forgotten ship.

My Process


This 3D environment is a project I worked with the purpose of creating a high quality, complex scene with an obvious point of focus. I was interested in the idea of how pieces of broken things, or fragments, remain prevalent through time regardless of their relevance or use.

Due to time constraints and the goals, I set for myself, I utilized free 3D assets in combination with my own models to create a complex environment. The ship is a free asset I found on Poly Haven as are some of the smaller assets like the cannon and lanterns. Using these free assets gave me the ability to focus most of my time on the environment itself and all of the smaller details. I custom modelled the structures to fit the scene and work with the other assets.

This approach allowed me to create a highly complex scene in a short period of time. Modelling the structure to create different spaces and rooms for the free assets help create a strong scene with many individual elements that work together well as a composition.
